The End has no end

Last few days here in SF, but the man himself, Martin M. has made his way over the Atlantic and is hangin out with me and we are even flying back together. It is like he came over especially cause he knows I have too much stuff to take back. Anyway, my last days have been good, last weekend I went out with Noah and Becki and we played beer pong (I hear, quite the fraternity game) at a party - we played the version with broken table tennis bats - and despite fancying myself to anihilate my opposition Becki and I lost by a whisker. Rounded off the evening in this place called Elbo Room watching a James Brown Tribute Band. Saturday I played Squash at 4 for the first time in a month which was fun and had some beers with Richard, an English guy from Squash, and then stayed in and watched the Wire for like 5 hours. Hard to believe but it just gets better and better. Sunday I finally bought my new favourite shoes on Haight St. with pretty Miss T. and then Ben cooked some as always great food. On Tuesday Martin, Winnie, Sandra and I and Ben and Noah watched Baseball in Oakland, quite the experience but the game itself sucked. Oakland's first hit was a homerun and they never scored after that and lost 1:2. Have to say not a place to drink tasty beer and healthy food or talk about anything else than Baseball or bad TV, but we had a great time. Wednesday Martin and myself hung out with Elizabeth and drank German beer and today we had Peruvian food, which was very limey and we had the most fun ride to work today with aforementioned Elizabeth in her totally cool BMW. Flying back on Sunday anyway and will make sure to have quite the fun time til then and make sure SF will really miss me.

What an idiot

Always totally up for some self-criticism and this is kind of funny:

I decided to do my washing today, and I always have to go on the second floor to do so. I dont like doing it cause the light hasnt been working so I always have to fiddle with the door to see what I am doing. So it takes me like a minute to get there and halfway there I remember I forgot one of my Tshirts so I go back to get it. Then I go back and fiddle with the door just to notice that all washing machicnes are full so I walk back with my stuff. 15 mintues later I go back again and fill my stuff in only to discover that my washing card had run out of credit. So I had to go back again and exchange cards and go back and switch it on, fiddling with the stupid door of course every f***ing time. Finally, with my washing running I go back and return after 35minutes and start loading my stuff into the cleaner. So in come this dude and I am like "hey man, this broken light is real annoying!" and he is like "Em, the light switch is right here!". And the guy was right, it is right next to the entrance. However, you have to turn it cause it switches itself off after how ever far you turn it. I always thought it was an air conditioner or so.
Anyway, after walking there and back 5.5 times tonight and fiddling with the goddamn door every time I finally got my washing done. Quite the achievement I like to think.

Bands and plans

I have been to many concerts lately, mainly due to the courtesy of Ben, who organised a bunch of tickets. There were three shows in total, two being great, one average. The most hyped up band was pretty average, Vampire Weekend and the front band pretty much sucked. I mean they were fine but more or less as expected and I am not a super huge fan of theirs. Far better were Born Ruffians with Cadence Weapon! If you are into hiphop you should check CW out, he is really smth. else. Lastly I watched Tokyo Police Club who were super. I bought like 6 CDs and 2 Tshirts at two of the shows, but who gives a damn with the weak dollar, hey? Anyway, they were real fun and we went out afterwards and I also went out with my good French friend Matthieu on his final day here, which was fun too. We had a romantic dinner to two before, ha, which we were totally comfortable with of course. I wasnt so comfortable with paying 42$ for a pitcher of Margherita on the other hand.
Okay, apart from that I spent Easters at Winnie's Mum's place which was real fun and the food was great and we went to Berkely afterwards and I bought some CDs and had some great coffee at Pete's. That is pretty much it, been having fun otherwise lately taking things easy and enjoying the everyday sunshine. Have also made a personal committment to living healthier, which is working great and am eating salad an fruit every day (secretely it is cause I put on weight that I am eating healthier) and getting certain things in life sorted out, like credit cards and missing driving licences. I also thought I would buy a car when I am back in Dublin, yeah, why not.

The house of looooove

Due to some health restricitions I was working from home most of last week and due to be coming quite attached to my nice little flat (that I am not even sharing with anyone) I took some pictures of my room, the living room, male genitalia that hangs in our living room and Winnie, who was chillin' in ma crib the other day. Not on pictures - swimming pool, gym, whirlpool. I don't know why I am such a bighead about those things since I rarely use any of it. Yeah, Im pretty happy with this place and over the course of last week I also became a regular at my super market, the woman behind the counter even told me about next week sandwich offers ("Oh wow! Pastrami? I'm so ecxcited!"). That is it really, the book I photographed is the one I read for book club. It is pretty weird. I also bought some great Gary Larson Far Side comics the other day. To quote the author, "And for those of you who hate the far side I have one thing to say: Your mother is a cow!"

Tahoe Pt 2

As promised some pics fro my last weekend once again a week late. We went skiing twice that weekend and it was really good and I managed to fall only on my second day (though it was the first time I went on some black slopes). I only did that though cause Matthieu told me everything would be fine (note . Anyway, the weekend was real good, we stayed in this really cool appartment, had dinner in a casino on Saturday and the view from the slopes on Lake Tahoe was really great. Anyway, I hope you like the pics and my new hat, Winnie gave it to me as a present (she got it from her mother). Another big achievement was that instead of going out on Saturday I went home early so I would be fit for skiing the next day. Everyone else woke up with a hangover (well almost) apart from me. Now, you would think I would be rewarded for such discipline but far from it, I made the mistake of drinking a double espresso before going to bed and then I was woken up by everyone who tumbled in at 2:15 (I was sleeping on the couch). By five I managed to fall asleep again only to be woken up by someone's phone go off on the table. Bad bad night, but the skiing the next day made up for it. I will post some pics on my undertakings of this week tomorrow or Tuesday, went to two concerts anyway which were fun.

Tahoe Pt 1

I was in Lake Tahoe last weekend and this weekend too but I aint got pictures from this weekend so you will have to put up with these. Last time I was there was a work-related offsite which was fun but I was too lazy to organise skiing equipment like trousers etc. so I drove all the way up and just hung out with Arlene, the undoubted high(-or low)light being the super-awesome snowtubing! Well, we did it with a bunch of little kids and it was basically just a 80 metre downward slide with a bend at the end and I did manage to fall off once at the end when I went head-first. Only downfall was getting up at like 4am and being up the night before til 1am. The Saturday after the ski trip I had breakfast with Ben and Elizabeth and had a fun time in Dolores Park with some friends of Elizabeth and had an early night for a change and on Sunday I went in the hottub with Winnie and Elizabeth (at my place, remember I have a hottub!) and then we had some food and watched my favourite film, "The Squid and The Whale". I have to say, watching it a fourth time actually reenforced my opinion of it as being the best film ever so if you haven't watched it watch it. Okay, I'll post some pics from this weekend from proper skiing in Tahoe when I was bothered enough to organise some skiing stuff etc. I can tell you already it was real cool but pretty exhausting which is why I am going to bed now. You will like the pictures cause, as you guessed, I look great in skiing clothes (especially in Winnie's hat)!

Brandnew for a change

So, long time no posts but hopfully I can make up for that by posting a bunch of pictures. The last time I posted was in the middle of the coastal Califinia trip, of which you will see a bunch of pictures here. In the end we ended up in a bunch of places following San Luis Obispo, namely Santa Barbara and Santa Monica and Venice Beach (the cool house top right we saw there). I had actually been in Venice Beach when I was in LA last time but only really realised once we were driving through it. Venice Beach was one of my favourite places and we had some great breakfast there and saw some cool people (incl. the sufers) and I rebought my sunglasses there, after mine broke dramatically after just one week of wearing them - thankfully we passed the exact same shop secod time around in Venice, ha! Santa Monica was cool too and we went to this restaurant called Bubba Gumps - you may remember it from Forrest Gump.

We stayed in Venice until Saturday midday and then Annika (the great driver that she is) drove all the way back on Saturday to San Francisco. I was back to work the week after that and watched "Be kind - rewind" with Winnie which was super, I'd say 88%. Otherwise Annika, Ben and I went to some great restaurants (a lot of Sushi), a cool dive bar called Phone Booth - the only bar in which you can semi-legally smoke here (I played the same song twice in a row on the jukebox which made me look like an ass) and to a really nice Italian restaurant called Cafe Sport - which had super food for little money (which is not uncommon for San Francisco). The last day we went to Alcatraz, which was probably one of the nicest days I have spent in SF so far as the weather was really great and the Audio Tour as loads of fun. Before that I found myself once again in a Vegetarian restaurant for brunch.

That has pretty much been my two weeks since my last post - this week, since Annika being gone - I was hanging out a bit with my French friend Mathieu here and yesterday we had an offsite at Lake Tahoe, where most people went skiing but I was too lazy to organise sufficient ski gear for myself so I went snow-tubing and just generally hung out a while.

Today I got up early and Elizabeth and Ben and I had some tasty breakfast at this place called Bugaloos. Funnyt hing in SF is you really have to get to places early and reserve or sign up and wait like 30mins, people just love going out for food here so there is always a wait at popular places.

Right now I am sitting in a Jazz bar enjoying an afternoon Austrian beer and may be going to Dolores park with Elizabeth and her friends. Tomorrow I might spend in Berkely or just hang out, kind of undecided depending on how I fare today. Anyways, updates to follow a bit more frequent going forward so keep checking. I actually bought an adapter for my camera so I can finally use that again and not rely on other people. Thing to note though that most nice pictures you see here were taken by Annika, my photography talents are somewhat limited.
